Water released into Kalingarayan Canal for irrigation

Water was released from Kalingarayan Anicut at Kalingarayanpalayam in Bhavani into the Kalingarayan canal for the first crop season to carry out farming on 15,743 acres in three taluks in the district on Monday.

A Water Resources Department official said water will be released for 120 days till October 13, 2025 for cultivation across Erode, Modakkurichi and Kodumudi taluks. The total water release would be not more than 5,184 million cusecs depending on the water storage and inflow in the dam.

Erode MP K.E. Prakash and Erode (East) MLA V.C. Chandhirakumar opened the sluices at 5 p.m. on Monday, and released the water into the canal.
