Strong Earthquake Hits Delhi

Delhi-NCR experienced a sudden jolt on Thursday morning as a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the region around 9:04 AM, with its epicenter in Jhajjar, Haryana, just 50 kilometers from the national capital. The shallow depth of 10 kilometers intensified the tremors, which were felt across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan.

Residents in high-rise buildings reported shaking furniture, with many rushing outdoors in fear. While some missed the tremors due to their mild intensity, others described it as a “scary experience,” especially with memories of previous quakes still fresh. The earthquake lasted for about 10–12 seconds and created mild panic during the busy morning hours.

What adds to the concern is the ongoing monsoon that has already left several parts of Delhi waterlogged. The India Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert for heavy rain, and now the earthquake has heightened anxiety in the region.
